Try to exercise your body and mind with determination. Focus. Listen to the music, feel your movements, understand how your body works and have fun. These are the only requirements for practitioners of Capoflex, the new style of aerobics with the “Brazilian way” that promises to explode in the North American video-class market.
Conceived to spread the benefits of capoeira training around the world to anyone, including athletes, Capoflex was created by capoeirista Eric Marinho, from Bahia, who has lived in the United States for ten years. In partnership with producers Lamarr Williams and Rick Watson, Eric adapted movements and strokes from capoeira to aerobics, in an accessible and easy-to-execute way. The young entrepreneur says that Capoflex is the realization of the dream of offering the public a flexible workout without disassociating it from its root, which is capoeira. “Capoflex is a Brazilian style of aerobic exercise” – he says.Soul of capoeira, ginga is the basic movement of Capoflex and that dictates the rhythm of the class. In the 50 minutes of intense body training, the practitioner works the large muscle groups, burning 500 to 850 calories. In the first fifteen minutes, breathing is already accelerated and a strong heat runs through the interior of your body.
Although it seems arduous, it is possible to keep the choreography in sync safely and without the requirement of improved skill. To this end, the structure of the class is divided into three uninterrupted parts: warm-up, introduction to ginga and the main aerobic work: a continuous sequence of punches and kicks, such as the half moon, the blessing and the hammer.
The upper and lower limbs are actively worked on, emphasizing abdominal flexion – ideal for getting rid of localized fat and getting a six-pack. Body cooling exercises point to the end of the class which concludes with an invigorating stretch.
