Lyle McDonald – Applied Nutrition For Mixed Sports
Description
About Applied Nutrition for Mixed Sports Book / DVD
Mixed Sports Applied Nutrition explores nutrition for what I like to call mixed sports. This includes most team sports along with sports such as boxing, MMA, and others.
Any sport that has both endurance and strength / power requirements is considered a mixed sport. These sports have unique physiological and training requirements when compared to pure endurance or strength sports. And that can make nutritional optimization more challenging than in these sports.
In 2009, I gave a seminar in Vancouver at Fraser University for my soccer and football teams on this topic. Instead of just slapping the DVD along with handouts and slides, I wrote a companion book. Throughout the book and workshop, I build nutritional guidelines from scratch.
Applied Nutrition Topics for Mixed Sports
The book / workshop begins with a discussion of the specific needs of mixed sports athletes. This leads to a discussion of the various nutritional components. Energy intake, dietary proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals are all discussed in some detail.
This is followed by a study of meal planning and optimal nutrition around the workout. Then I discuss hydration / cramps, supplementation, and how mixed athletes can change body composition. Finally, I appear to put all the information together for different sporting situations.
The product contains a book, 2 DVD seminars, and the Powerpoint slides that come with it. The book can be read as a stand-alone product or read while watching a DVD workshop.
