Taylor Welch (born November 1, 1989) is an American rugby league player who played one professional Rugby league match for the Warrington Wolves in the Super League in 2008. Welch was selected to represent the United States national team at the 2013 Rugby World Cup.
After playing As a youth, he switched to rugby union at school and was persuaded to try out for rugby league by Warrington Wolves head coach Paul Cullen, joining the team’s youth academy. In 2008, Welch was called up to Warrington’s 19-man squad to cover for the injured Chris Riley. Riley was cleared to play, but Welch trained so well that he was selected for the 13-man squad ahead of teammate Kevin Penny for the match against Castleford Tigers. It is believed that he became the first American to play for the Warrington Wolves, and the first ever to play in the Super League.]
Welch continued to play rugby union. He was selected to the United States ‘ practice squad for the NAWIRA Sevens Rugby Union qualifier in the Bahamas.[4] He played for Fylde Rugby Club, pays d’Aix RC in Pro D2 and Sale F.
