Kamipro – PRIDE Secret Files (Revised)
Description:
[1 eBook – EPUB, MOBI]This book was only released in Japan and was translated by MMA Translations. Like the Sakuraba book, it was briefly free, briefly for sale and then disappeared. As with the Sakuraba book, I cleaned up the notes, fixed the grammar and typo problems, formatted the PDF into readable ebooks, etc. For those not familiar with the book, it details many previously unknown stories and could/should/would have beens that almost happened throughout PRIDE’s history. Most of the stories were unknown in Japan until this book was published and many/most are still unknown in the west.
The book also features several interviews with PRIDE fighters about their time there, MMA in general, etc. It gives an insight into a time when men were men and didn’t whine about only having two months to prepare to fight someone. I did the best I could with what I had to work with with this one as far as the notes go. Instead of explaining who various people are, MMA Translations instead opted to link Wikipedia quite often. I left it as it was, but people not familiar with Japanese pro wrestling from the 90s will likely be looking up a lot of people, as pro wrestling was far more influential on PRIDE than most westerners realize. It was essentially a pro wrestling company with (allegedly) real fights. Highly, highly recommended for anyone with an interest in the history of MMA.
