about the actor
Ernie Boggs began his martial arts training in 1970 under the guidance of karate master Bob Long and later under the influence of jiu-jitsu legend Professor Wally Jay and martial arts great Graciela Casillas creating a champion and visionary of the martial arts was complete. From traditional martial arts training at the local YMCA to points tournaments (before the invention of sparring pads), body protection and underground fighting, magazine covers and changing martial arts competitions around the world, Ernie Boggs has become one of the most influential martial artists today.
Boggs was a four-time inductee into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame and considered one of the greatest Jiu-Jitsu players of all time. He was the first American to become world champion in that sport, as well as the only person to receive the AAU Jujitsu All-American award. He also competed on the national and international circuit, excelling in both traditional karate and professional kickboxing.
Since retiring from competition, Boggs has utilized his 35 years of martial arts experience and skill as a coach for the USA Sport Jujitsu team. As a coach for Team USA, he has produced more national and world champions in his sport than any other coach in the world.
In his commitment and desire to promote Sport Jujitsu around the world, he was instrumental in the establishment of the International Sport Jujitsu Association (ISJA). He served as president of the ISJA and is considered the world’s foremost authority on Sport Jujitsu. In fact, he is even credited with coining the term Sport Jujitsu.
