* Self-awareness comes from focusing your attention inward.
* It is at the center of all vicious circles that help keep the problem.
* It also makes the problem worse.

Although retirement feels safer, it can make you vulnerable to bouts of self-awareness. Facing the world is a safer option in the end.
* Self-awareness influences what you perceive, how you interpret it and what you remember. Expanding yourfocus of attention changes what you perceive; working onyour thoughts can change how you interpret what happens;and doing things in a new way begins to fill yourmemory with new things, so that the three strategies described so far fit together well.
