Description Goal setting that gets 2018 results You watch a soccer game. Offense faces 4th down and 2 yards to go. The punting unit enters the field and clears. The coach hasn’t paid attention to the math of football called “analytics. He just doesn’t want to stake his job on some unfamiliar” technology, “so instead of throwing the ball, he hits. Imagine that you are the quarterback for a coach who likes to “play it safe.” (Even the phrase is wrong…) He will never be as effective as a quarterback whose coach calls plays with the best chance of winning the game. You are different. You are both a coach and a quarterback! You have to call your plays AND execute them! And this is a big reason why people with average “trainers”, which is almost 2/3 of all trainers (mathematically) fall into that average territory. Approximately 15% fall in the very good categories or 2% in the excellent categories and the other 17% fall in the lower than average or poor category. The same is true for quarterbacks and everyone else in life. Question: How do you fall into the excellent category? You are his coach and his quarterback in life. You are a two for the price of one. You need both aspects to work to be great. I don’t like the word “objectives.” I’ve said this for a long, long time. Goals are something that people say they want and hope they will achieve. And then they don’t. I am interested in what people do to be successful. BUT the idea that MODELING A PERSON’S SUCCESS WITHOUT FACTORING IN ALL MODELS FOR FAILURE is DESTINED FOR FAILURE. What I do and share with those I mentor has an approach that ONLY deals with the facts of what really works to establish and achieve results. It starts with studying the failure and finding out what caused the failure … finding out what causes everyone to get a failure result when they “aimed” at the success target. Then I move on to the fact that successful people do many of the same things as failed people, but there are DIFFERENCES and hardly anyone finds those differences. And that means the chances of achievement are remote. Period. The millionaire mind

I want to share with you some information that is not in any basic goal setting program that you have. What makes The Millionaire Mind unique is that it has nothing to do with my opinion. One of the biggest problems I encountered in getting results in life was meticulously following the MISSING TIP of people who knew nothing about goal setting. They knew how to say the words. They could utter a philosophy that seemed to make sense. It sounded easy. It sounded scent proof. It led to failure after failure … and I found that for a decade it was not just me, but EVERYONE who used these goal setting “strategies” that failed. Advice was almost always ill-conceived based on the experience of some people. Goal setting that doesn’t work Almost all of the goal setting tips were based on looking at the lives of some successful people and then distilling it into a common sense approach to goal setting. That sounds like a good idea in theory … except for one thing … it works for almost anyone. What is the theory? What is that theory? What happens is this: I tell 100 people to run as fast as they can when they start the marathon. Run and don’t look back. Watch yourself crossing the finish line and the crowd goes wild. And guess what? IT WORKS FOR ONE PERSON. So the people who teach goal setting say, “What did he do?” Then they say, “Oh! That makes sense. I’ll tell everyone else to do that. The problem is that 99 people used the same strategy and failed. But when you interview ONE, he tells you what he did and it’s compelling. It is persuasive. It is even COMPELLING. And for the most part, it is the wrong strategy for most people. You and I have set THOUSANDS of goals. We took the advice to the T. We did what we were supposed to do and THOUSANDS of times we didn’t get what we wanted. Again, the system was wrong, but it looked good, because “every winner” did it. And so did the 99% who lost. In other words, it was simply worthless. This type of information is called observational bias. Someone TELLS YOU what they did, they won (you saw it) and then you believe what they attributed their success to. Today, some years after the “great aha”, I continue to approach goal setting for results in a very different way than other gurus. KEY POINT: To be sure, I am interested in what people do to be successful. I’m interested in hereditary factors, the environment, the specific differences between how people prepare, what is the true process of improvement from one event to another. BUT the idea that MODELING A PERSON’S SUCCESS without FACTORING ON THE MODELS FOR FAILURE is DESTINED FOR FAILURE. I’ve learned to do my homework … everything. You probably remember from previous articles and programs I’ve written that goal setting that works has a number of factors that are counterintuitive. The DIFFERENT strategies that successes and failures use are HARD to unravel from each other. Both successes and failures use the “old model” of goal setting. Those who are successful play the role and tell the strategy that all 100 (or 1000) of the failures used as well. I hate those odds …… Keys to Successful Goal Setting First: Short-term goals are much more motivating and MUCH more likely to be met than long-term goals. This is so important. PLEASE don’t just read past this. Almost all self-proclaimed experts pretend that you need a long-term goal, a life plan, a mission statement. Fact: When people stick to ideas that sound good (like visualization) but don’t understand the CAUSE, they become demoralized and start to fail. So this vast majority of competitive success The blame and shame of the failure of the people in the audience… because they did the same and failed. What’s next Second: Many long-term goals are too big. Sounds good at first. Think: Yacht, beaches, travel, wealth, wine, women (or men, take your pick), happiness. And what happens in most cases? Devastation
This kind of thinking erodes the individual and the long-term failure and hopelessness of USES. Now, with just those two facts in mind, here’s some pretty amazing new information that I think will help you make 2006 the best year you’ve ever had. What works in goal setting? First we go to the part that is necessary for success that the gurus do well. Among the independent marketers surveyed, six out of 10 do not set results or goals at all! This is very sad because this group of people earn the least among all sellers. Three out of 10 set general earnings goals, and they earn as much as those who don’t. A little less than one in 10 set specific goals and earn THREE times as many as those who don’t set goals at all. So the first thing we have done is validate the gurus. The facts show that specific goals matter … … When they are short term… less than six months, preferably less than three months and better if they are even less than ONE MONTH. Now let’s pause here. I spend a little over 15 minutes a week on Outcome Based Thinking. You read about this in Persuasion Psychology. It’s a simple yet incredibly powerful way to get what you want. That’s it. 15 minutes. 15 minutes to determine what results will happen this week, what to do in case of unexpected obstacles and the plan that will overcome those obstacles so that the results happen without the need to set more goals. When there are a lot of projects on the plate (CD recording, writing the new book, taxes, preparing for seminars and seeing clients) Invest maybe as much as 20 minutes per week in writing and results-based thinking. Yes. Everything goes on paper, in a specific planner in a unique way that allows me to get everything I start completed.) Because I do this, I am going to earn about 10 times what someone who is doing everything I do without predetermining the results in advance along with the other 7 stesp. (Remember, 15-20 minutes…) Only this activity that becomes part of the Sunday routine like having breakfast increases income geometrically. Take your income and play with the numbers for a second …. Most people set their “goals” (I don’t really like this word because it is so ill defined as a “dream with a deadline. Warranty: This will fail. When are the results achieved? When results are achieved Results (what you want to be the result of your effort) are going to happen when you continually alter them on a daily basis and achieve those bite-sized pieces every day. The daily alteration process? About a minute. I wish I could tell you that it was a long and arduous task. And three days that takes two minutes, but I can’t remember a time recently that took more than that. What about “goal setting” that successful salespeople (and people in general who predetermine results in ALL areas of life) know that others don’t? Or do you know? Are they just the ones who went out there, spun the same wheel, and theirs came out to the right? First, establishing challenging and accessible SHORT-TERM results (today through this week) BUILDS SELF-confidence. When you write it, it becomes part of the reality of the external world. As you run around your brain, you are simply getting tired and will eventually stop running and quit smoking. Thinking about goals is a disaster. Second, setting challenging and accessible results in the SHORT TERM (today through this week) encourages PERSONAL COMPETITIVENESS. You and I have evolved to compete with ourselves to constantly improve ourselves … to constantly learn, be happier, and achieve those things that seem out of reach. Lastly, setting challenging and accessible results encourages INTERPERSONAL COMPETITIVENESS. Here you look side by side with others who are doing the same as you and use them as a criterion as well. Not only does he excel when competing to his own standards, he competes even more effectively and achieves results when there is competition. This competition can be agreed upon (like a sprint or soccer game) or it can be on your own score keeping system in your mind. These are the three areas the best results are watching for every day, and you CAN easily be in the top 10% if you aren’t already. But there’s a problem. Something is missing. What? The missing ingredient You cannot begin to achieve without self-confidence. How do you build confidence in yourself and in others? It’s not necessarily easy, but the outline is pretty simple:
First, you can’t be sure if you don’t understand or play the game well. Whatever you want to be confident in doing, you must have a full breadth and depth of field understanding. Second, knowledge is only the foundation, but the actual process of ACHIEVING is crucial. Actually DOING something UNTIL it is done and experiencing the pleasure of COMPLETE teaches your unconscious mind to be successful
when you do it often enough. Finally, you get to a point where these two factors ONLY get you so far … then you must study what it is that causes the failures that using almost IDENTICAL METHODS are doing wrong. You MUST unravel those fine points because they are the DIFFERENCE. Then, and only then, find the best people in your field and get into their thinking, behavior, and ACTIVITIES. I know this is just the beginning. I’ve only scratched the surface… But I’m tired of seeing people feel guilty or embarrassed or ashamed due to the poor opinion of the gurus.
